Coming to Summit

What is the Summit Reformed Youth Conference?

A week-long conference designed to promote spiritual growth and Christian fellowship among high school age young people and young adult singles within our churches. The week is packed with fun and fellowship: five main worship sessions, at least four breakout sessions, daily devotions, sports tournaments, Out-Day activities, free-time activities and a talent show.

What are the ages for Summit participants?

Young people: students who have completed grade 9 through grade 12 (grade 12 grads register as young people). Young adults: post-high singles under the age of 30.

Can I come to Summit alone?

Yes. At every Summit conference we see young people and young adults come by themselves, and when they leave they have forged new relationships and new friendships.

Can I bring a friend who does not attend a Reformed church, or is not a believer?

If your friend does not attend a Reformed church, make sure they know what goes on at Summit, and show them the topics that will be discussed. If your friend is not a believer, or does not belong to or attend a church, we do not recommend Summit for them: as organizers we assume that everyone who registers has faith in Jesus Christ and is a member of Christ’s church.

When can I arrive on Monday?

On-campus registration runs from 1 to 5 p.m. Please do not arrive before 1 p.m.; if you reach Calgary earlier, have lunch, go shopping or sightseeing. Supper is at 5 p.m. and the Monday night main session begins at 7:30 p.m.

During the week

What is a day at Summit like?

The days are deliberately busy and long so you can cram in as much learning, fun and fellowship as possible. Each day has a main session where we sing together and hear one of the main session speakers. On Tuesday and Wednesday you attend breakout sessions and join the sports tournaments or the outside games. Thursday is the Out-Day in the afternoon, with a special event in the evening. Friday the conference wraps up in the late morning.

What kind of activities are there?

Out-Day activities, free-time games, lawn games, sports tournaments, swimming and a 5K run.

Are there free-time activities that do not involve sports?

Yes. We have an extensive collection of board and card games for your free time, plus outdoor games like Nine-Square, human Dutch Blitz and Can-Jam.

What should I bring to Summit?

A checklist is emailed a few days before the conference. The main items:

  • A fan for your room (the dorm rooms have no air conditioning)
  • Bible
  • Cell phone and charger (as long as you keep the rules for cell phones)
  • Notebook and pen
  • Alarm clock, or use your phone
  • A modest bathing suit (see the Summit rules)
  • A hoodie or sweatshirt for cool nights
  • A pocket umbrella or rain jacket
  • Sports gear for tournaments (knee pads, shorts, shoes, ankle wraps)
  • A beach towel or extra towel
  • Whatever you need for the talent show
  • Out-Day gear: hikers wear comfortable shoes (no sandals or slides); rafters bring a bathing suit and shoes for rafting

Chaperones

What if my church cannot send a chaperone?

If your church sends a group of young people, a chaperone is required (an ideal ratio is 2 chaperones for every 10 young people). If your church sends only 1 or 2 young people and cannot send a chaperone, we can make an exception. Please contact us to let us know.

Do chaperones pay the same registration fee as everyone else?

Yes. The fee covers the cost of your room and your food for the week.

Travel

Is there a ride from the airport?

Yes, sign up for the Summit airport shuttle. It meets you where the buses park at the Calgary airport. In 2026 there were two Monday pick-ups (12:30 and 4:00 p.m.) and one Friday bus leaving campus at 12:30 p.m., reaching the airport around 1:30.

What if my flight is delayed?

If your flight arrives after the last Monday bus has left, arrange a taxi or Uber, or ask your parents to help you get to the Mount Royal University campus, about a 35-minute drive. The Summit staff are not able to help. Be prepared to wait an hour or two at the airport on Monday and Friday.

Fees and refunds

Does Summit have a cancellation policy?

Yes. Before June 1 we can usually give a full refund. After June 1 we may only be able to give a partial refund. No refunds can be given within 4 to 5 weeks of the event, because your registration and Out-Day fees have already paid for your room and food (the University charges us in advance), T-shirts and swag, Out-Day tickets and buses. We understand that wildfires and other things outside our control can complicate travel; all we can do is pray the roads are open, or that you can make other plans.

How can I raise money to help with my registration fee?

Fundraisers at your church are one of the best ways:

  • A bottle drive
  • Making and selling croquettes
  • A Dutch food sale
  • A bake sale
  • A car wash
  • An ice cream social
If my fee only covers my room and food, who pays for everything else?

Summit relies on the generous support of churches (through offerings and annual budget support) and personal donations. The other costs include the college facilities, travel, speakers’ honorariums and registration fees, videography, advertising, staff expenses and the website. If your church does not yet support Summit, please ask your deacons to consider it.
